LEATHER INFORMATION
Leather is a natural product and each hide will have unique beauty markings including healed scars, insect bites, stretch marks and neck wrinkles. It takes a lot of hides to fully cover a piece of furniture and color variations are expected.
Leather only gets better with time and will soften which creates a comfort feel and larger wrinkles withinhighuseareaslikeseatorbackcushions. Puddling is especially common with nicer/softer leathers and the larger panels used in quality manufacturing.
THINGS TO AVOID WITH LEATHER
- Avoid direct sunlight which can cause the color to fade
- Avoid placing your leather furniture too close to heat vents which will dry the leather and could cause cracking and discoloration
- Avoid head area discoloration by using a headrest cover to protect from hair oils
- Avoid allowing pets on your furniture to prevent scratches, stains and claw tears
- Avoid soaps, solvents, polish, oils or ammonia water which will discolor and dry the leather
HOW TO CARE FOR LEATHER
- Under normal conditions, regular dusting and vacuum cleaning in crevices around and under cushions is all that is necessary weekly. Regular cleaning will keep dirt and debris from filling pores and causing scratches or discoloration. Beyond the weekly cleaning, apply a leather conditioner monthly to keep your leather moist and eliminate the buildup of dirt and oils that can discolor the leather.
- If you have a spill, use a clean rag or sponge to blot up the excess liquid. If necessary, use a lightly moistened cloth with distilled water and let it air dry naturally.
- Especially for reclining furniture, use a fabric or leather headrest cover to protect the contacted leather from hair oils, sweat, and hair treatment products which will discolor the leather in the head area.
